  Was there in 1964 setting up a new Polaris Nuclear Sub Tender base ( USS Proteus AS-19). Seems like Roto had 400 bars, like the Florida Bar, Miami Bar, Texas Bar and any alley with a wine keg. Enjoyed our trip to Seville Spain to the bull fights.....DON'T DRINK THE WATER THEN..... We had been in Holy Loch, Scotland before taken up station at Roto and enjoyed all the early world sights...

  I was stationed here for a while in the 70's. I remember riding the Base Commander's pet brahma bull after more than a few at the EM Club. My back reminds me of this to this day. - Article_86

  We loved being on a Naval Base - my husband was Air Force! We were stationed there from 94-97. The base is located in Southern Spain where the locals are friendly. We miss the beautiful ceramics that you can buy off base! Our daughter did attend the daycare on base and the DODS elementary school on base. The hospital had great service and the staff was outstanding. Rota will always hold a special place in our heart as our son was born there. I worked at the NFCU on base and it was a great way to make friends. It's also easy to travel to other locations. Southern Portugal is just a three hour drive away! We hope to visit soon.
